Joel had obviously spent many hours preparing for this class. I have always had trouble following fly "recipes". It seems there is always a "break" which leaves me wondering how to get to the next step. Joel, in his comfortable and knowledgeable way takes you through the steps like a quiet river flowing down a gentle mountainside.
Although Joel's specialty is in the realm of Eastern Tennessee traditional flies, it is obvious that he has experience and knowledge in a wide expanse of fly tying methods and genre's. Best of all he freely shares that knowledge and experience within his classes by explaining the "traditional method" as well as methods that he has found through his experience produce a better fly.
An interesting and helpful class. By October I intend to have a number of small streamers in my box at the White River. After throwing my shoulder out, swinging large streamers, I shall enjoy swinging the lighter versions.
